Hackney Colliery Band - "Heart-Shaped Box"

I'd never heard of a Sofar Session until the Wah Wah 45s folks shared this video of  the Hackney Colliery Band covering Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box" but scrolling through some of the other stuff on their Youtube I'm definitely marking their London and NYC locations down on my mental map.

The Precious Lo's & Tyler Smith - Night Ridin' EP

To paraphrase The Starters' Trey Kerby, "they're back" baby. It's been more than a minute since The Precious Lo's got some love on RR, but they just dropped a new EP with Tyler Smith called Night Ridin' and while you really can't f**k with any of it, my jam is definitely "Still the Same" which could have found a place on a Tony! Toni! Toné! record which puts in smack-dab in the middle of my wheelhouse.

Nomade Orquestra - "Samurai"

This one just dropped on Friday and I'm sorry I missed it then or it would have made the soundtrack to my weekend. Funky, smooth, lovely, "Samurai" is just a stellar slice of sunshine.

LT LEIF - "Deep Bright"

Okay internet-music-lovers. It's inexplicable that music as good as the stuff Laura Leif (aka L.T. LEIF) is making only has five (!!!!!) followers on her Soundcloud account. Admittedly "fine dust rising" and "deep bright" are days-old tunes, but this stuff needs to spread like wildfire!

Both tracks are taken from the forthcoming Shadow on the Brim / Rough Beasts release, so if you like what you hear, mark your calendar for June 6th!

Kat McLevey - "Tell Me Once"

Originally released eight months ago, UMFM received Newfoundland "folk songstress" (her words) Kat McLevey's evergrown at the end of January 2016. I gave it a brief listen before cataloging it among the New Releases at the station, but moved on quickly as we average double-digit submissions each day.

Not sure what led me back to this record last week, but since then I have played "Tell Me Once" about a dozen times. Don't sleep on this beauty.

Tee Mac - "No One Can Rule the World"

If you're disappointed with election results (here in Manitoba, or the primaries in New York) maybe the title and perspective of this cut can bring some positivity to your day. I'm positive you should listen to the rest of Nepa Oh Nepa, a compilation of Nigerian flautist Tee Mac just released by Hot Casa Records.

Tanika Charles - "Two Steps"

Winnipeg. Please meet Toronto (formerly of Edmonton) soul singer Tanika Charles. If you haven't heard me play the titular track to her forthcoming LP Soul Run on TGIFR, here's a second chance to get hip to someone who is bound to be big. Charles has that throwback thing going on but this isn't a facsimile. She's the real deal and that voice of hers is incredible.

The fine folks at Jazz Winnipeg are bringing Charles to town for a special show at The Good Will so take a listen and mark your calendar for May 18th.

ADaD - "Holdin' On ft. Black Thought, Yaw & Khari Lemuel"

Just got tipped off to this new ADaD cut thanks to its producer, Tensei (who you need to be following!) and this cut bounces like no one's business. If your head isn't bobbing or you don't have a strut in your step while you play this cut, call the coroner. PLUS Black Thought! A Makaya McCraven sample! GET ON IT!!!

Taylor McFerrin - "Postpartum (Dorian Concept remix)"

Brainfeeder just dropped this Dorian Concept remix of a cut from Taylor McFerrin's Early Riser on their Soundcloud page earlier today. It's also available as a free download.

Supermoon - "Bottleships"

Playland from Vancouver band Supermoon comes out May 17th on Mint Records. First tune just dropped on Soundcloud and it's pretty promising! If you were a fan of the Rough Trade Shops: Indiepop compilation then you'll be booking a cruse on this "Bottleship."

Andrew Bird - "Roma Fade"

No joke. Andrew Bird's new album dropped today. It's called Are You Serious and I am serious that it's good. My favourite track is below.
