Matthew Barber & Jill Barber - "Comes A Time"
How have these two not done a record before? Too much talent for one family those Barbers.
Hannah Miller - Selective Memory
I am straight-up SWOONING over Hannah Miller and her lovely voice. When she coos "bless my soul / when you get home / the things I plan to do / I'm saving all my love for you" on "All My Love" it just makes me melt. Can you imagine being the person who inspired this song?
Mieke Miami - Break of Dawn EP
At some point, I need to make it over to Germany, and particularly Berlin. Compost and Sonar Kollectiv in particular are longtime favourites and it's thanks to the latter label that I've discovered Mieke Miami. It's among the more subdued listens I've had from SK, but no less enthralling for being quiet. Only three songs plus a remix on Break of Dawn, but what songs they are. Check out "August" and its insistent drums and buzzing guitars for starters.
Milk - Late Bloomer EP
"You don't hate me like you should" sings Milk on opener "Don't Laugh." It's true, I don't hate them - in fact I'm smitten with their jangly slacker tunes that suggest The Monkees and Pavement had a musical baby.

Adrian Younge - Something About April II
I've been sitting on this new ish for a minute and been hip to Adrian Younge for ages so I'm stoked to say that Something About April II is officially out and streaming via Bandcamp below. Your weekend plans just got cancelled because you're staying home and macking on a loved one while this backs you up.

Remy Kay - "Looking Out"
Big ups to Anthony Valadez who hosted & posted about this artist. Remy Kay joined Valadez at dublab and he's been spinning her tunes on his KCRW show. Get following her on Soundcloud because the music she's making needs to be heard by more than the current 66 followers.
Submotion Orchestra - "Needs (ft. Andrew Ashong)"
New Submotion Orchestra LP Colour Theory coming out February 19th. Only two cuts are collaborations but one of them is Andrew Ashong who can do no wrong.

MONO/POLY - "The Fuckin' Real"
My only visit to L.A. was technically to Anaheim where I was attending a conference. While I did eat some great Mexican food and stayed at a motel that looked like a castle with a pool in the courtyard, I did not really get to see the "L.A" I think about when I consider the great music that has come from that city. At some point I want to go back and when I do, I'll definitely be visiting HIT+RUN's site to see what they've got going on because they appear to be a focal point for a lot of the hip-hop/electronic/soul/jazz players I dig. Their imprint HNR just released - like January 4 2016 just released - Cryptic from MONO/POLY an artist I discovered because Thundercat plays bass on a couple tracks including my favourite, "The Fuckin' Real."

Renegades of Jazz - "Pounding Song"
Agogo Records starting 2016 off right! David Hanke - aka Renegades of Jazz - drops the b-side from his forthcoming single "Afro Cookie" and if this is the also-ran, I can't wait to hear the front-runner. "Afro Cookie" is the first thing to drop from an imminent LP, Moyo Wangu.
